Whisky Tastings

WhiskyDC offers two types of Scottish Single Malt Whisky tastings:

Public tastings

WhiskyDC offers tastings through other Scottish-American organizations in the National Capital Area, such as the St. Andrew's Society, Virginia Scottish Games, and the City of Alexandria Sister Cities Committee. To receive notifications, please add your e-mail address to the St. Andrew's Society of Washington, D.C., E-News Sign-up list. You do not have to be a member to receive notifications of all Scottish events and news.

A typical WhiskyDC tasting involves at least four different Scottish single malt whiskies. The whisky tasting convener reviews the Scottish whisky regions, leads the discussion of the tasting of the whiskies, and encourages the guests to do comparative tastings after the formal presentation.

Private tastings

For private tastings for your selected guests, WhiskyDC offers an educational program that lasts between 30 and 60 minutes with a Powerpoint presentation and tastings of four to five whiskies throughout the presentation. The convener encourages discussion and questions. Whiskies are selected that represent different regions and with different characteristics in order to cover the regional whisky-making variations. Also included are tips on reading labels and selecting whiskies. If the tasting is part of a larger celebration, WhiskyDC will require a separate room to minimize the noise from the other guests. WhiskyDC can bring a video projector screen, if no blank wall is available. The cost for a minimum of 25 people is $500. A deposit of $250 is required at least one week in advance and $250 at the time of the tasting.

Please note: The whisky flights will consist only of Scottish Single Malt Whiskies. This excludes bourbons and blends. If you wish your guests to drink various whiskies without the educational program, you may want to consider hiring a bartender rather than engaging WhiskyDC.

Please contact the Convener at least three months in advance to secure a date and time.
