I'm new to Scotch, being a bourbon buff originally from Kentucky (Northern KY-near Cincinnati) --I went to WhiskeyFest New York to learn about Scotch.
The Laphroaig rep took the time to show the whole line, light the peat and really sold me. In Baltimore, at Wine Source, they have the entry model, Laphroaig 10 Year for $34 (a discounted sale price)-and I'm a happy Islay lover!
We pour out a little and the incense begins--I am carried away to a Scottish cottage, fire burning, sky racing gray. Sip and simmer.
I'm starting with the base model--great price, right?

I've rediscovered Edradour -- from the smallest distillery in Scotland. I've found the palate to be lightly fruity and grassy. The strong finish has a hint of caramel (maple sugar?) Wonderful. We discovered it at the ABC store in the Belle View shopping plaza in Alexandria Virginia, corner of Fort Hunt Road and Belle View Boulevard.
